This past Thursday, in a moving celebration setting before a large public audience, major Louis Miriani dedicated the 2260 Fort St. address under the name of the Charles P. Kemeny Recreation Center, which will be a permanent symbol for a praiseful memory of Charles P. Kemeny who died a heroic death in his young age.

His dear widowed mother, Mrs. Istvan Kemeny, of 15588 Cleveland, Allen Park was there at the celebration, as well as the 9 siblings of the deceased young hero living in the Detroit area.

In a moving speech, the city major paid a tribute to the memory of Charles P. Kemeny, who on August 25, 1944 in his young age gave his life for the freedom of his country in faraway France.

In the family name, Steve Kemeny, his brother, thanked the leadership of the Parks and Recreation Department for this honor.

After the respectful celebratory speeches, Father Andras Jakab said a prayer.

The deceased young hero, a beloved member of our society, was born on November 21, 1921 in Sharples, West Virginia. At the age of two, he came to Detroit with his parents. He studied at Holy Cross Roman Catholic School and completed his education at Holy Redeemer High School. In the month of February 1941, he reported for service as a soldier, where he obtained the Silver Star medal. Blessed be his memory for gloriously fighting for his homeland and for every brave son guarding this great country.
