You can not discuss Old Delray without also including a chapter on Woodmere Cemetery. This is where so many of Delrays residents were laid to rest. including all four of my immigrant grandparents, along with two of their children. This is also where I plan to be intered when my time comes. Many of Detroit's famous and infamous have also been laid to rest here. A trip through Woodmere Cemetery is a trip through history.

Woodmere Cemetery and Crematory is located at 9400 Fort Street, south of Vernor Highway. The cemetery was dedicated on July 14, 1869, and began with approximately 2,000 remains that had been removed from the Russell Street Cemetery when it was closed. It is about 202 acres of land, and contains the remains of many of Dearborn and Springwells area pioneering residents. The cemetery itself is still currently active and also contains the remains of the people killed during the 1932 Ford Hunger March. This is a partial transcription of burials, from interment records submitted by Woodmere in 1875, transcribed stones & other researchers.
