People Inquiry / elek polagyi, owner of Hungari...
Last post by hungarian mike - February 16, 2011, 04:01:17 pm

Hi -

I am a native of Dayton, Ohio, who now works as a news reporter for a newspaper in Arizona.
In the early 1990s, I researched and wrote a manuscript about the history of the Hungarian community in Dayton.
I am trying to find anyone who remembers Elek Polagyi (possibly Palagyi), who used to own the Hungarian Village restaurant and also later opened the Hungarian Village restaurant in Dayton in the late 1930s.
Are any of Mr. Polagyi's relatives still around Delray or the area? I would love to locate any vintage photographs of the restaurant when he opened it in Dayton. He used to bring in a lot of Hungarian Gypsy musicians to play in the restaurant and they lived above it.
I look forward to hearing from anyone!

Stores / The Witch of Delray
Last post by MagyarMan - February 15, 2011, 01:36:16 pm
I recently ran accross this great, well researched blog telling the story of the legendary, Witch of Delray. For many years I though this was just a made up story by my mother.
This is a brilliant well written, well researched story. I remember as a kid, my mother telling us kids about the witch of Delray, but I always thought it was just a story made up to scare us kids. WOW! Mom was right! The way my mother told it was that she ran a butcher market, and she butchered her many husbands and sold them as meat in the butcher market. Gruesome story! My mother embellished the story to scare us kids, and it worked.
Every story has a kernal of truth. Check this out.

Hi Richard,

I am not sure if they will mail them. I would imagine that if you covered the cost of shipping they would.
Fr. Barnabas would be the person to contact and you can reach him @ sztkereszt@comcast.net or 313.842.1133.

I shipped some last Christmas to Florida and the cost was under $ 20.00 and that was shipping 3 of them to the same address.

Take Care,
Tressa

Good morning eveyone,

I wanted to let everyone know that Holy Cross Hungarian Roman Catholic Church will be hosting a Winter Fundraiser Dinner on Sunday February 20, 2010 @ 12:30pm in the Church Hall.
Tickets are $ 20.00 for adults and $ 10.00 for children with a cash bar.

We will also be selling Kalacs for Easter. There are $ 12.50 each and you can choose from walnut, poppy seed, apricot and raisin.
I will update you with the dates to start ordering.
As always, I appreciate any help you can give this wonderful parish.

Take Care,
Tressa (Hornok) Komara

Will they mail order Kalacs to us? and if so, how do we go about ordering Kalacs and have it sent to us? Lots of people here would love to support  this church, but can't attend this fund raiser dinner.

HI TO ALL FROM DELRAY

I GREW UP ON HOME ST. JUST OFF OF JEFFERSON. MY FATHER AND MOTHER ALSO GREW UP IN DELRAY IN THE NEIGHBOR HOOD OF CARBON WORKS. AS BOTH OF MY PARENTS HAVE PASSED AWAY I HAVE COME INTO POSSESSION OF A LOT OF PHOTO'S FROM THE LATE 40'S TO AROUND THE 60'S THAT THEY HAD. AM NOT SURE WHO SOME OF THESE PEOPLE ARE BUT WOULD LIKE TO SHEAR THEM WITH YOU IF I COULD.

If you could contact me directly via e-mail, we can discuss the best way to feature your photo collection on te Old Delray website. I would love to create a photo essay of them. Do you have a scanner?

Places / Photos of Pulaski Bar wanted
Last post by MagyarMan - January 07, 2011, 10:40:52 pm
Do any you have any pictures of the Pulaski Bar in it's heyday? Inside or out is OK. With or without people is OK.
This would make a nice feature story on my website.
I did a Google search for Pulaski Bar, Detroit or Delray, and nothing came up. What a shame!
I already have a great story from the grand daughter of the founder of the Pulaski Bar in 1915. E-mail me directly with your photos.
